This comprehensive programme equips leaders with the knowledge, skills, and strategic frameworks necessary to create truly inclusive educational environments where every member of your school community can thrive.

The Programme

Introductory Session: Orientation and Foundation Building

Immerse yourself in the Being Luminary methodology and tools that will support your transformation as a DEI leader. Understand our approach to creating sustainable, systemic change and how these frameworks can revolutionise your leadership practice.

Session One: Intersectionality and Systems of Privilege

Focus: Religion and Belief as Protected Characteristics

Move far beyond basic diversity awareness to master the sophisticated theory of intersectionality. Explore how multiple identities interact to create unique experiences of privilege and oppression. Through the historical lens—from Sojourner Truth's 1851 "Ain't I a Woman?" speech through Kimberlé Crenshaw's groundbreaking 1989 legal scholarship—understand how single-axis frameworks fail to capture the complexity of lived experience.

You'll explore:

  • The evolution from single-axis to intersectional thinking

  • How to identify and dismantle systems of privilege in educational settings

  • Practical tools for recognising religious and belief-based discrimination

  • The difference between equality, equity, and access

  • Case studies demonstrating intersectional analysis in action

"Working with Angie, I have found her to be thought-provoking and encouraging in all EDIB matters. I appreciate her honest, no fuss approach and feel she can communicate her area of passionate expertise in an easy-to-access manner."

Session Two: Critical Allyship and Social Responsibility

Focus: Anti-Black Racism and Misogynoir in Education

Transform your understanding of allyship from performative gestures to critical action that challenges systemic inequalities. Examine the historical roots of anti-Blackness from 16th-19th century slavery through to modern manifestations in educational settings. Master the art of bystander intervention and learn to navigate the complex terrain of microaggressions.

You'll explore:

  • The distinction between allyship and critical allyship

  • Historical timeline of anti-Blackness and its educational impact

  • Microaggressions: micro-assaults, micro-insults, and micro-invalidations

  • Statistics on disciplinary disparities affecting Black students

  • Strategies for engaging with resistance and creating accountability

  • Moving from passive support to active intervention

"Angie has coached me personally, and worked with my school and our other trust school with huge impact. Her knowledge, frameworks for challenging discrimination and emotional depth has been nothing short of inspiring."

Session Three: Organisational Culture and Structural Inclusion

Focus: Gender Equity, Pregnancy, and Maternity

Examine the critical difference between stated organisational values and actual lived experiences. Learn to identify and dismantle structural exclusion while building robust frameworks for structural inclusion. Through powerful case studies—including Rachel Campey's story and the reality of "silent suspensions" for pregnant students—understand how policies can either barrier or bridge access to education.

You'll explore:

  • Organisational culture analysis: values, policies, practices, and beliefs

  • The difference between structural exclusion and structural inclusion

  • Sexual violence and harassment statistics in educational settings

  • Policy development principles that centre marginalised experiences

  • Regenerative vs. extractive conversation techniques

  • Creating supportive environments for pregnant people and parents

Session Four: Ethical Responses to Discrimination and Microaggressions

Focus: Power Dynamics and Hierarchies in Education

Dive deep into the ethics of institutional behaviour, examining how hierarchies—staff, pupil, values, and school—create complex power dynamics that impact every interaction. Trace the colonial origins of international education and their contemporary implications. Master strategies for ethical response when criticised or challenged.

You'll explore:

  • Four types of educational hierarchies and their impact

  • Historical context: UK international schools and colonial systems

  • Understanding bias: affinity, conformity, and confirmation biases

  • Third-Culture Kids: identity challenges and opportunities

  • Local vs. international staff dynamics and inequities

  • The four-step framework for supporting marginalised groups

  • Weathering criticism with integrity and growth

"I have the privilege of working with and learning from Angie on our Mission44-funded project aimed at Increasing Diversity in ITT. I am always impressed by how well Angie strikes the balance between unapologetically pointing out the real issues of systemic racism in education and how to address them while also creating a collaborative, constructive environment without blame."

Session Five: Equity, Access, and Opportunity

Focus: Disability Justice and Neurodiversity

Master the distinction between equality, equity, and access through the powerful lens of disability justice. Explore three models of disability—Medical, Charity, and Social—and understand why the Social Model offers the most transformative approach to creating inclusive environments. Move beyond inspiration obsession to genuine systemic change.

You'll explore:

  • Three Models of Disability and their implications for education

  • Universal vs. Inclusive Design principles

  • Barrier identification and removal processes

  • Statistics on accessibility: only 3% of the internet is fully accessible

  • Neurodivergent student experiences: exclusion and bullying data

  • Self-reflection on emotional responses to disability

  • Creating genuinely inclusive rather than merely accessible environments

Session Six: Global Perspectives on Diversity and Inclusion

Focus: Challenging Harmful Narratives Worldwide

Examine how institutional, societal, and global narratives shape experiences of belonging and exclusion. Challenge cultural supremacy and explore the colonial heritage of anti-LGBTQ+ legislation worldwide. Master the distinction between "freedom to" and "freedom from" and develop sophisticated approaches to identity-based harm policies.

You'll explore:

  • Three types of narratives: institutional, societal, and global

  • Cultural supremacy and its manifestations in education

  • Colonial legacies: how imperial powers imposed anti-LGBTQ+ laws globally

  • The cost of inauthenticity vs. the benefits of belonging

  • Recent anti-LGBTQ+ legislation and book bans: case study analysis

  • The Belonging Framework: validations vs. injunctions

  • Strategies for rewriting harmful narratives at every level

"It's hard to capture the immense impact that Angie's expert and always so well-considered training sessions, time and support have had on me personally, as well as on the DEI awareness, empathy and decision-making of the senior leadership team at my school, and in turn the students and school community."

Closing Session: Strategic Planning and Community Building

Transform your learning into sustainable action through collaborative strategic planning. Share tools including the Being Luminary Curriculum Review and DEI Maturity Audit. Build lasting connections with fellow leaders and explore opportunities for ongoing collaboration and joint ventures in your region.

You'll explore:

  • Strategic planning frameworks for sustainable DEI implementation

  • The Being Luminary Curriculum Review methodology

  • DEI Maturity Audit: assessing and planning organizational growth

  • Building regional networks for ongoing support and accountability

  • Creating community partnerships and joint ventures

  • Sustaining momentum beyond the programme

The Melanated Mastermind is a 6-month programme that combines powerful teaching, transformational coaching, mentoring, and sisterhood to ensure that our participants grow into their current or new leadership roles and understand how to navigate their unique leadership challenges as women of colour.

Throughout the programme, you’ll begin to embrace your true personal power and lay the foundations for the legacy that you plan to leave. This programme goes deep — an investment with returns far beyond your career track.

Monthly Immersion

Our immersion is our workshop of the month where Angie introduces the monthly topic and deep dives into the material during an online class. This is an interactive session but we will go deep and you will leave with a full heart and mind whirring with inspiration and new insights.

Online Community Space and Resources

All our course materials are available in the community space inside Mighty Networks, and any call recordings will be available within the network.

The Melanated Mastermind resources are designed to help guide and support you through the work you’ll do over the next six months. It contains all of your mentoring prompts, mindset tools as well and provocations from the monthly teachings.

Tri-Monthly Group Mentoring

Our group mentoring calls are the heart of the programme, an opportunity to gather in community, share insights and breakthroughs, and receive coaching on our monthly topic all within the container of a powerful group of women.

The Investment

"Angie has worked with our Trust and the senior leaders in our trust for several years, supporting us in our diversity, equity and inclusion work.
