Sherine El-Menshawy

Associate

I am an empowerment coach with long experience in primary education, leading DEI work, and serving as link governor for DEI and PSHE at a Midlands secondary school. Working with Being Luminary lets me contribute to real change in education, alongside leaders who are committed to learning and to building equity into the heart of what they do.

As a woman of mixed heritage I have a longstanding interest in identity, equity and power. Listening properly to people’s stories, and talking together to build spaces that are inclusive, equitable and safe, has run through my personal, academic and working life. For me this work is about cultural competence, and about making places where everyone can do well.

I live in a leafy suburb of Birmingham surrounded by parks. Birmingham is home, but my heart is still tied to Cairo, where I lived, studied and worked in my twenties. The independent food scene here is superb: the Brummie balti, ten minutes away in the Balti Triangle, and excellent Turkish, Syrian and Peruvian food too.
